Abstract
In 2005, Israel implemented a new geodetic datum, IGD05-Israel Geodetic Datum 2005. The new datum was defined based on a network of 13 permanent Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) stations. The network provides a reference frame for precise GNSS measurements and serves as the major geodetic control network in Israel. Due to the dynamic nature of the Earth crust, the relative positions of the permanent GNSS stations are not fixed but are time dependent. The set of coordinates that were valid in 2005 no longer represent the current position of the points, and a datum update was required. The method for determining the need for a datum update using statistical tests, as well as the actual update campaign, are presented and discussed in this paper. In addition, the impact of a datum update to Israel's plane coordinates system is demonstrated.
