Abstract

A medical imaging system (20) includes an array (24) of transducers (30), configured to insonify tissue (22) to be imaged with a transmitted ultrasound signal, and to receive from the tissue a reflected ultrasound signal in response to the transmitted ultrasound signal. A processor (34) produces an image (44) showing reflectivity at multiple points in the tissue, by estimating the reflectivity of each point in an iterative computation. In each iteration, the processor estimates a distribution parameter of the reflectivity, and a distribution parameter of interference comprised in the received ultrasound signal, based on an estimate of the reflectivity of the point, and estimates the reflectivity of the point, based on the estimated distribution parameters of the reflectivity and of the interference.
