N2 - Ultrafast control of electrons has evolved tremendously in recent years. In the first part, we will give an overview over the interaction of ultrashort laser pulses with various needle tips. Starting with new types of nanometric emitters and a characterization of their photoemission properties, we will continue with two-color photoemission from needle tips, both in the perturbative quantum-path interference regime as well as in the strong-field regime. In the second part, we will give an overview of nanophotonics-based particle acceleration. Having demonstrated all individual components needed for a laser-based accelerator, including optical acceleration, deflection and complex electron phase space control, we are now able to build the accelerator on a nanophotonic chip.
