Abstract
Giovanni Boccaccio has composed a Latin geographical dic-tionary:
De montibus, silvis, fontibus, lacubus, fluminibus, stagnis seu paludibus, et de diversis nominibus maris
This catalogue is based onplace-names found in Classical texts and aims at offering a referencebook for readers of the ancient authors. In this chapter I intend to linkgeographical lists with mental maps, and specifically with the hodolog-ical concept. I shall focus on Boccaccio’s lexicon and use Pietro Janni’stheory of hodology to illuminate an important aspect of this lexicon inparticular and geographical lists in general.
