title = "Transformational change in humanistic learning communities: A case study of person- and idea-centered integration",
abstract = "In this paper we consider a unique CSCL environment where an unusually large emphasis was placed on having students get to know themselves and each other as learners as they studied ideas about learning. Framing this design as a {\textquoteleft}humanistic learning community{\textquoteright}, we claim that students{\textquoteright} transformational changes come about when they consider their personal experiences as learners, both in the past and present, in relation to the more abstract, conceptual ideas about learning. We present an analysis on the different activities of a humanistic learning community. We show how considering person- and idea-centeredness explains the significant transformational changes that the participants make. We conclude with a discussion about what this conceptualization offers the design of CSCL environments.",
