Topology optimization procedures for reinforced concrete design

Abstract

We present novel topology optimization procedures for reinforced concrete structures, that facilitate the development of new design methodologies relying on realistic cornputational modeling of reinforced concrete couplel with optimal design techniques. The approach is based on incorporating nonlinear material modeling of concrete together with an embedded formulation for the representation of reinforcement. The clistribution of concrete and reinforcement is determinec simultaneously by combining continuum-based and truss-based topology optimization in a single computational procedure.
