Abstract

In recent decades, the field of arts therapy has expanded and entered the education system. Within this system, arts therapy promotes the emotional and social inclusion of students with special needs. A systematic review of the effectiveness of arts therapy indicates that art therapy can help integrate students and adolescents with post-traumatic symptoms, delinquent behavior, and those confronted with a variety of life challenges. This chapter deals with the role of arts therapy in promoting students' emotional and social inclusion. It examines the numerous benefits derived from integrating arts therapy into the educational system but also highlights the challenges that are primarily due to the disparity between the therapeutic and the educational discourse. Models developed over the years to address these issues are presented.
