Abstract

In the spring of 2013, two years after the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, Hezbollah entered the fray. By way of helping to shore up the beleaguered Assad regime, the Islamist Lebanese organisation expanded and deepened its involvement in the civil war throughout Syria to areas far from the border. This article analyzes the ramifications of Hezbollah’s involvement in the Syrian civil war between 2013 and 2020 in three main arenas: the organisation itself, Lebanon, and the entire Middle East.
