Abstract
This article identifies the patterns that help define what forms 'profane' learning. It discusses some individual preachers and their classical intellect, and how they exploited profane learning in a variety of different contexts in their sermons. The article also considers the actual impact of profane learning on preaching and the different degrees of profanity.
