The Hittite Šašta Oracles: A Presentation of the Sources and An Analysis of the Šašta Oracle Procedure

A rather small number of Hittite texts are recognized as šašta oracles. These oracles or, perhaps more precisely, oracle reports of past procedures, observe the behaviour of the ram in its pen, according to which the oracle question is decided. In this study, these texts will be presented and analysed with an aim at understanding what the logic behind the positive or negative result was.
