Abstract
This chapter focuses on value development from childhood through adolescence to adulthood and on the relationship between value development and morality. The chapter is introduced with a definition of values as they are defined in psychological research. We then examine the integration of research between moral development and values. In doing so, we examine these relationships through some aspects of morality: moral reasoning, moral attitudes, moral emotions, and moral and immoral behavior. The next section focuses on the development of values in childhood and adolescence. In this section, we first introduce the measurement tools used to measure values in childhood and adolescence. We then provide an overview of how values change with age, the factors that influence value development, and theoretical perspectives on these changes. At the end of the chapter, we briefly discuss the interface of moral development and value development.
