Abstract

The Mandaic amulet MLSC 2 is published here for the first time. The text comprises a historiola that shows many affinities with similar Mandaean accounts of descents into the world of darkness. The article presents an editio princeps and translation with comments on linguistic and literary parallels. It also relates to issues of the relationship between the written text and magical rituals involving various ingredients.
