The bifacial tools workshop at the flint production area of Givat Rabi East, Lower Galilee, Israel

A pit containing knapping refuse associated with preliminary stages of bifacial tools production was found during a salvage excavation at Givat Rabi East. Located in close proximity to raw-material outcrops, this newly found pit is part of an extensive complex of flint workshops that has been revealed in the last decade in the Lower Galilee, northwest of the city of Nazareth. The association of the pit with flint knapping is indicated by the abundance of bifacial tools, most of them discarded during production, as well as on the relatively high frequencies of cortical items within the debitage. Among the fully shaped bifacial tools adzes are most common, possibly indicating specific activity nearby. Here we present the flint assemblages that were collected during the excavation, with an emphasis on the assemblage collected from the pit (Loc. 421)
