Abstract

An interdisciplinary program on military avionics was recently offered by a leading Israeli high school. The curriculum combines physics with electrical engineering and focuses on aviation weapon systems, such as heat-seeking missiles and laser-guided weapons. The program is designed to show the use of physics and electrical engineering in aviation and to enhance students' interest in these fields. The program was attended by twenty 12th grade students majoring in mathematics and physics. The study presented in the paper characterized the students' attitudes towards the program. Data were collected by questionnaires, observations and semi-structured interviews. The research found that the students exhibited great interest towards the program. Additionally, they believed that the integration of physics and electrical engineering is natural and leads to a deeper understanding of physics.
