Abstract
Since the enactment of Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty, which contains the Israeli Bill of Rights, human dignity became the central concept in Israeli human rights discourse. The chapter introduces the Jewish approach to human dignity through the prism of the Israeli Supreme Court and shows its effect on Israeli case law. It points out the unique features of this interpretation and situates it in the context of the universal discourse on human dignity. In concrete, the chapter attempts to answer to two main questions: (1) the content of human dignity; (2) the significance of grounding human rights in human dignity in Israeli law.
