Post-conflict and Mid-conflict Spaces

Post-conflict and post-transition societies have been fertile ground for reconciliatory and historical-justice-based memory activism. Yet, the global diffusion of the transnational paradigm of post-conflict reconciliation through addressing past wrongdoing since the 1980s shaped the vocabulary and claims of societies in active conflict as well, regarding past – and present – wrongdoing. Using Israel–Palestine as a test case of active conflict, this chapter demonstrates how temproal differences between active and post-conflict settings shape the goals and impact of memory activist efforts.
