Material loss omits nonlinearity in optically thick materials

Abstract

We show that Kerr-like nonlinearities may be omitted in lossy optically thick materials, resulting in underestimated Nonlinear effects. This indicates that Nonlinear characterization should be obtained in thin samples to avoid masking of the effect.
