Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

Gauthier of Château-Thierry was a Parisian master of theology who served as the chancellor in the years 1246-1249 and as the Bishop for several months. His question on the office of preaching is the richest systematic reflection about the regulation of preaching that we have from the period. It addresses the preaching of women, laymen, monks, excommunicated, sinners, bishops, masters of theology, young men etc. The critical edition is accompanied by a short introduction to the author and his works, the tradition of scholastic writing about preaching and to several intriguing points in the text.
