Lightning

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Lightning is a major natural hazard to power companies, civil aviation, wildfire managers, and the public. Lightning results in great economic damage and death every year, but lightning also tells us about the inner working of thunderstorms. Since lightning can be monitored in real time from great distances, lightning may allow us to provide early warnings for other meteorological hazards such as hail storms, flash floods, tornadoes and even hurricanes.
