Lessons from old underground openings in rocks: The wisdom of ancient engineers

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

There is a lot that can be learned from a careful study of old underground monuments in rocks, and lessons can be applied to modern rock mechanics research. If such openings require preservation for future generations, deep understanding of the rock mechanics issues becomes even more important.
