Abstract

Law and aging is a new and developing field of knowledge. It is both multi- and interdisciplinary by nature. It combines theoretical and practical knowledge from the fields of law, gerontology, and geriatrics. It focuses not only on legal interests of older persons and their family members, but also on substantive legal issues, which are of importance in old age (e.g., guardianship, social security, or health law). As described in this article, law and aging is a rich and diverse field, which has novel elements in both international law as well as municipal and local law.
