Abstract
The aim of this article is to analyze the different psychological forces that play some role in the process of human choice in the book Duties of the Heart by BaÌya ibn Paquda. The first part of the article explains the roles of the six psychological forces that are active in the process of choice. The most important force is the reflect (fikr) that is the cause of human freedom. The second part of the article deals with the theological importance of choice that, in the opinion of Bahya, is more important than the one's action. The reason for this importance is the unique independence of human choice from divine will. Therefore, choice is the basic criteria for divine remuneration.
