Abstract

Three short films examine modern Jewish prayer and the changing role of the synagogue in the life of the individual and the community. The films are based on "Jewish time" and the three daily prayers of shachrit (morning), minchah (afternoon) and arvit (evening).

The film "Shacharit" is about individuals who choose to pray away from synagogue. "Minchah" depicts the middle of Judaism's day – Yom Kippir (the Day of Atonement). "Arvit" shows Jews establishing new alternatives to the traditional synagogue as they welcome the Shabbat evening.
