Abstract
Cellular networks are evolving from connected everything in fifth-generation (5G) to a new paradigm of connected intelligence in sixth-generation (6G). Towards this end, intelligent reflecting surface (IRS), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) communications, and edge artificial intelligence (AI) have emerged as enabling 6G communication technologies, which are expected to interact with integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) to enable various new applications. First, integrating IRS in ISAC can enable efficient non-line-of-sight (NLoS) and multi-angle sensing, and provide more degrees of freedom (DoFs) for communication. Next, employing UAVs as new aerial ISAC platforms can provide enhanced sensing and communication coverage, and more flexibility in service provision. Furthermore, exploiting edge AI can achieve efficient and intelligent ISAC signal processing, while preserving the data security and privacy. In view of these trends, this chapter discusses three emerging applications, including IRS-enabled ISAC, UAV-assisted ISAC, and edge AI with ISAC, by presenting their benefits, challenges, and potential solutions. Interesting research directions are also highlighted to motivate future work.
