Abstract

Beyond Hiroshima: The Return of the Repressed Wartime memory, Performativity and the Documentary in Contemporary Japanese Photography and Video-art is the catalogue of an exhibition held at the Genia Schreiber Tel Aviv University Art Gallery, Apr-Aug 2015, comemoraating the 70th anniversary of the Asia-Pacific War. The collection contains six essays by leading scholars in the field, including Ayelet Zohar, Narita Ryuichi, Akiko Takenaka, Julia Adeney Thomas, Lena Fritsch and Justin Jesty. This is an outstanding and unique publication, with discussions concerning issues of war memory in performance and video art, the complex history of the Asia-Pacific War and its remembrance, war and trauma, war and photography.
