Abstract

This chapter examines the crucial role of iconography in mediating the climate crisis over the past decades. By analysing the evolution of images published in the climate section of news websites across 30 countries from 2010 to 2022, it explores the historical significance of news media in shaping collective imaginaries of the climate crisis through visual framing. Furthermore, it presents a comprehensive methodological approach utilising the Internet Archive Wayback Machine to conduct a large-scale transnational visual web historical analysis.
