Abstract

In light of the acute shortage of scientists and engineers in Europe and Israel, there is a need to increase the interest of high-school students in science and engineering. In order to expose 12th grade students to the attributes of engineering design and increase their interest, the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology has developed a unique course "Introduction to Engineering Design". During this 16-session course, students are requested to complete – in a team format – various engineering tasks, based on a robotic kit. The study described here used qualitative tools to characterize students' attitudes towards the course.
