Abstract

Global stability theory is used to assess the instabilities of the flow around airfoils at low Reynolds numbers, of the order of few hundreds. The sole two parameters for this flow are the Reynolds number and the angle of attack of the airfoil. The base flows for the stability analysis are attained from a Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS). The effect of the angle of attack on the stability is investigated using the BiGlobal framework. The resulting instabilities are associated to different regions of the flow such as the boundary layers, shear layers and the far wake.
