Giant resonance and absorption in ultrathin metamaterial

Abstract

We study a metamaterial periodic structure consisting of alternating positive/negative refractive index layers. Very narrow resonance peaks with absorption of 50% are obtained, for a structure thickness as thin as 1% of the incident wavelength.
