Abstract
Marine deposits contain the records of the history of the oceans and of global climate across the entire Phanerozoic, as well as parts of the Proterozoic. A prerequisite for their use as archives is the ability to determine their depositional age, requiring the use of absolute and relative dating methods, and this requirement can at times present significant methodological and analytical challenges.
