Abstract
Gen 9:1-7 has traditionally been regarded as the Priestly epilogue to the Priestly flood story. In this article, I aim to refute this view and demonstrate that this unit, which incorporates various motifs from Priestly literature as well as from Deuteronomistic (D) and Holiness Code (H) texts, was edited by the Holiness School (HS) during the time of the return to Zion after the exile. Its stated purpose was an all-out struggle against the animals that threatened the sparsely populated state of Yehud.
