Abstract

The paper presents the design of a wind-tunnel wing model to study aeroelastic shape-sensing using optical fibers and aeroelastic shape-control based on the measured deformations. The paper presents the wing design, instrumentation, structural and aeroelastic analyses, and results from ground vibration tests that were performed for model validation and calibration. A trim optimization study was performed to find the control surface deflections that would result in a required (user-specified) lift force while constraining wing deformations. In the next phase of the study, the wing and trim optimization will be studied in a wind-tunnel experiment.
