Electro-optic threshold comparator based on multimode interference

Abstract

A device with step-like O/E response is described. The proposed comparator consists of silicon-based Multimode Interference couplers and phase shifters delivering a set of sine-wave responses of different amplitudes and phases which are superimposed according to the Fourier series representation of a square-wave.
