Abstract

The advent of vitrification has been a game changer in the world of oocyte cryopreservation, simplifying laboratory procedures and making the egg freezing process more efficient. As a result, an increasing number of women worldwide are turning to elective egg freezing (EEF) as a form of fertility preservation. Among the potential reasons for EEF, the most frequently cited is the lack of a partner with whom to pursue marriage and childbearing. In this chapter, we explain the life circumstances that lead women to EEF and the challenge of pursuing EEF without a partner. We emphasize the need for support of single women pursuing EEF and thus the importance of a patient-centered approach to EEF in in vitro fertilization (IVF) clinics.
