Abstract
The writer briefly reports on some early archaeological investigations carried out in the vicinity of Ramat Rạhel, focusing on the work of Maisler and Stekelis. In 1930, under the sponsorship of the Jewish Palestine Exploration Society, Maisler and Stekelis carried out a two-month-long salvage excavation. They discovered architectural materials and pottery that dated from the Iron Age to the Byzantine period. They also discovered a Jewish burial cave that consisted of ten Herodian ossuaries with ancient human remains. The most remarkable discovery was a volute stone capital, which was in secondary use.
