Abstract
The article discusses a research study on the compliance of Israeli web sites to online legal requirements regarding informational privacy and the effectiveness of laws in the regulation of data protection and online privacy. It reviews the legal concept of privacy such as privacy as control and privacy as access, the legal mechanisms in the U.S., Europe and Israel and core principles including limited use, access and data security. It cites the Private Study on practices and compliance of 1360 active Israeli web sites on information privacy, section 7(a) of the Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty under Israeli law and the Privacy Protection Act of 1981 (PPA). Findings showed disparate levels of compliance to legal regimes.
