Differential Diagnosis of the Cervical Spine: Clinical Evaluation

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Clinical evaluation of patients with suspected cervical spinal pathology is aimed at localizing the lesion based on neurological symptoms and signs. The severity of the spinal pathology is usually dictated by the degree of neurological disability or the risk of neurological deterioration. Many neurological disorders can mimic or coexist with cervical spondylosis, thus a thorough neurological assessment is a critical, albeit challenging step in the evaluation of these patients, prior to final decisions regarding surgical intervention.
