Abstract
Circadian rhythm sleep disorders (CRSDs) are sleep disturbances characterized by a mismatch between the internal biological clock and the environment. These disorders are associated with complaints of insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, and impaired daytime functioning in multiple areas. The diagnosis of CRSDs can be established by means of three diagnostic procedures: clinical interview, monitoring of sleep–wake cycle, and assessment of biological markers of the internal circadian rhythmicity. This article describes the specific features of each type of CRSDs as revealed by the three diagnostic procedures.
