Abstract

One promising to successful mathematics teaching is culturally relevant pedagogy (Ladson-Billings, 1995). Centering the Teaching of Mathematics on Urban Youth (CTMUY) is a teacher learning community for high school teachers in New York City dedicated to developing practices of culturally relevant mathematics pedagogy. This chapter describes an educational approach that characterizes that program’s profes-sional collaboration: learning mathematics of community as a community.
