Abstract

Emerging technologies, specifically those that involve natural language processing, may significantly contribute to public health and surveillance. In this chapter, I discuss the potential of several such technologies so as to expand our abilities in the realm of public health, from screening for depression, to searching for mental problems to prevent violent acts among teenagers and the identification of early warning signals of an approaching neurodegenerative disease.
