Art Therapy in Israel: Current Status and Future Directions for the Profession

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter › peer-review

Abstract

The modern state of Israel, which is less than a century old, is characterized by its remarkable growth and development. In response to this multiplicity, Israeli creative arts therapies (CATs) as a profession have a set of principles that are put into practice. The main goal of the CATs is to improve personal well-being and quality of life through creativity, art making, and holism. Art therapists in Israel have a longstanding history of working in educational institutions. Social art therapy and community-based art therapy are recent developments in Israel. To increase the effectiveness of art therapy with specific populations, research has examined different forms of art therapy interventions. A number of researcher-clinicians in Israel have examined the value of assessment tools in art therapy.
