Abstract

The first retrospective exhibition featuring the works of one of Israel's architectural forefathers. Arieh Sharon, a graduate of the Bauhaus School, planned over 600 projects, including kibbutzim, office blocks, hospitals and university campuses. Sharon was the architect of the first masterplan of Israel, at the office of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. The exhibition presents a critical view of Sharon's work in architectural and historical contexts. -- The nine chapters of the book include articles by prominent historians of Israeli architecture, alongside a chronological survey of Sharon's projects over the decades. Taken together, they offer a comprehensive interpretive and critical gaze at Sharon's accomplishments and influence. The book explores Sharon's contribution to shaping the appearance of the state of Israel, describes his worldview and the evolution of his architectural approach over time, and paints a portrait of his compelling personality. --
