Abstract
Partial edentulism in the anterior mandible poses a unique challenge for the dental profession, and requires horizontal and/or, vertical augmentation. Non-smoking and an unremarkable medical history serve as additional mandatory criteria for treatment. A clinical examination and computerized tomography radiographic evaluation are mandatory for validation of the treatment criteria. Three treatment options were considered and discussed with the patient: a removable partial denture, a conventional bridge or an implant-supported prostheses (ISP) solution with bone augmentation. The patients deciding on the third option were treated with cancellous block allografts. Newly formed vital bone, residual cancellous block-allograft bone and connective tissue were observed, after the surgery. This chapter also discusses a surgical approach for the reconstruction of the extremely atrophic mandible, based on Marx's submental extraoral approach.
