Abstract
This short afterword looks at the present political moment in Israel-when the attempts of an extremist government to narrow the Israeli democratic space even further encounter an unprecedented public protest-through the lens presented in this volume. A gaze from below at the protest movement exposes the rifts and tensions, which structure not only the Israeli political and social fields but also moments of emergent consciousness, when the tensions, contradictions, and fallacies of a “Jewish and democratic state” come to the fore.
