Abstract

The text presented in the following pages is a chapter from al-Munqiḏ min al-taqlīd,¹ a compendium of Muʿtazilite theology composed in the year 581/1185 by the Imāmī Muʿtazilite Sadīd al-Dīn Maḥmūd b. ʿAlī b. Ḥasan al-Ḥimmaṣī al-Rāzī, who died after 600/1204.² The chapter that is edited and translated here deals with the biblical passages that were adduced by Muslims as proof of the veracity of the prophethood of Muḥammad.³ It is of great scholarly interest for a number of reasons.
