Abstract

The need of teaching basic concepts of structural seismic design was the main reason for opening a first obligatory course in Structural Seismic Design at the Ariel University in 2000. After that similar coursed were offered at other Israeli universities. Later a selective seminar on Modern Methods for Improving Structural Seismic Response was open in Ariel University in the frame of undergraduate program in Civil Engineering. Presently many practical aspects should be known for yang structural engineers, therefore, for the first time in Israel a new seminar on Practical Aspects of Structural Design and Construction in Seismic Regions was proposed. The course is focused on main concepts in modern seismic design technologies and reflects the latest achievements in this field. Necessity of the course is explained by the recent World Congress (Chile, 2017), that was concentrated on practical issues in seismic construction. The course is one of the ways for improving the professional qualification of structural engineers, specializing in earthquake design.
