Abstract

This collection presents central issues in the history and doctrine of religious Zionism. The first two sections deal with the thought of R. Joseph Soloveitchik, Prof. Yeshayahu Leibowitz and R. Shaul Yisraeli on religious Zionism, on national religious Zionism torn asunder in an uncertain era, on the attitude of religious Zionist Halakhic authorities towards the Arab residents, on religious Zionism between ideology and Halakhah, and on rabbinical organization within religious Zionism. The third section deals with the religious kibbutz education system, the Zionist Talmud Torah schools, family as a factor in the abandonment of the religious way of life among young adults from the national-religious community, and a prolegomena to the study of women's status and identity in the religious Zionist movement. The fourth section covers the development of religious Zionism in the Diaspora, starting with the Mizrachi movement in Poland in the 1930s, the rehabilitation of the religious Zionist movement in Hungary after the Holocaust, R. Dr. Altmann and the Zionist movement in Hungary and Central Europe, Bnei Akiva in Cairo in the 1940s, and religious Zionism in Argentina. The final article deals with the Mizrachi organization, religious Zionism and American Orthodox Jewry in the second half of the twentieth century. The articles, eighteen in total, are the result of research of top scholars from the fields of history, philosophy, law, political science, sociology and education. Together they present a wide canvas of issues contributing to understanding religious Zionism from its inception to the present
