Abstract
These days, the State of Israel is promoting the rebuilding of "Tkuma" (rebirth) region (around the Gaza strip, up to 7 km from the border) and the Western Negev, aiming to strengthen the region resilience and transform it into a thriving and attractive area. The common leading approach for post- disaster recovery is the "Build Back Better" (BBB) paradigm. This approach, based on the principles of sustainable development, enables the construction of community resilience to address social, environmental, and economic threats while simultaneously reducing the risk of future disasters. The implementation of this approach in the process of renewal and prosperity of the Western Negev, as presented in this policy article, must be done with a regional perspective, involving the residents and local leadership, and with preparedness for short and long-term threats, from treatment of water, air, and soil pollution to addressing climate crises, minimizing biodiversity loss, and safeguarding public and environmental health.
