Abstract
This article shines a spotlight on different complementary aspects of Israeli migration abroad,heavily relying on secondary literature of publications of the Central Bureau of Statistics, reports of research centers, and journal articles and books. The article places emigration from Israel within a general thematic framework of present-day international migration, diaspora, and transnationalism. Thereafter, it presents the different definitions of Israeli emigrants and how these definitions have changed over time. The study is accompanied by an exploration of the sources of information that are available for quantitative research on Israelis abroad noting their similarities and dissimilarities and the ability to compare the empirical findings that arisefrom them. Attention then turns to analyzing the number of Israelis abroad, their socio-demographic characteristics, and the way they construct group identity in their new places of residence. The Conclusion offers new directions for research on Israelis abroad emphasizing the significance of scholarly work for planning and policy.
