מטרות המאמר הן: א. הצגת הפרופיל הקולקטיבי של תריסר הח"כיות הראשונות שכיהנו בכנסת הראשונה. ב. בחינת תרומתן לעשייה הפרלמנטרית ולחקיקה. ג. ניתוח עמדותיהן בכל הנוגע לתפיסת האישה, למקומה בעם היהודי ולמעמדה במדינת ישראל.
